The long and what seems like never ending baseball season is once again among us. Its opening day to our national past time (unless you count yesterday's Cards victory over the Marlins) but do you really care? Sure your friends on Facebook will give shout outs to their favorite teams today and Twitter will blow up with all the coverage. As the weeks go by your true die hard fans will keep up with there teams, but for most people today is the only time they will talk about baseball until where about a week out from the playoffs.
So what happened to baseball to make it take a backseat to football, and maybe even basketball? I can't speak for everybody but in today's world it's all about fast paced, high drama, and time matters. When people talk about the old days they always say it was a simpler time, everything moved slower. Baseball is anything but fast paced and no one has time to watch 162 games, the one thing it has going for it is the 7-9th inning can be very dramatic. So it only makes sense that baseball would fit in better in a slower paced simple world, and football is today's national sport.
Don't get me wrong I love baseball, there's not many things better than going out to a ball park and getting a stadium dog, but it has turned into what I call a "newspaper sport" (Don't watch 150 of the 161 games and just keep up with your team in the next days paper).
